Biography

George Chaponda has been Minister of Foreign Affairs since 5 October 2025, appointed by President Peter Mutharika.1

He is also the Member of Parliament for Mulanje South West in Mulanje District, sitting for the Democratic Progressive Party.2

He was born on 1 November 1942. He studied at University of Delhi, Yale Law School and University of Zambia. He has worked as a diplomat. He has also served as Member of the National Assembly of Malawi (2014) and Minister of Agriculture (2016–2017).
