About Ask Malawi
Ask Malawi helps people find clear answers about Malawi’s government: how to get a passport or a birth certificate, who their Member of Parliament is and how to reach them, and how much the country owes.
What you will find here
- Ask Malawi: type a question and get an answer quoted from official Government of Malawi websites, with links to the pages it came from.
- Guides: plain-language, step-by-step guides to common government services, written from official websites and checked every week.
- Members of Parliament: contact details and biographies for MPs, by district, and a record of former MPs.
- Presidents and the national debt: every president since independence, and how much public debt grew in each presidency, from Ministry of Finance figures.
- Government websites: every official ministry, department and agency website in one directory.
Where the information comes from
Answers, guides and figures come from official sources: Government of Malawi websites, the Parliament of Malawi, the Ministry of Finance and the Reserve Bank of Malawi, plus the IMF and World Bank for long-run statistics. Every page links to its sources. Official websites are re-read every week and debt figures are refreshed every month.
Independent and non-partisan
Ask Malawi is privately run. It is not part of, or endorsed by, the Government of Malawi or any political party.
