Biography
Saulos Chilima served as Vice President of Malawi three times: from 31 May 2014 to 31 May 2019 under President Peter Mutharika, from 3 February 2020 to 28 June 2020 under President Peter Mutharika and from 28 June 2020 to 10 June 2024 under President Lazarus Chakwera. He sat for the Democratic Progressive Party and UTM Party. He left the DPP in 2018 and founded the UTM Party, while remaining Vice President. He was reinstated when the Constitutional Court annulled the 2019 election. He died in office.1
He was born on 12 February 1973 in Blantyre. He studied at University of Malawi and Mtendere Secondary School. He worked as an economist. He also served as Minister of Economic Planning and Development (2020–2022).
He stood in the 2019 presidential election, coming 3rd with 20.24% of the vote.2
He died on 10 June 2024 in Mzuzu.
