Biography

Catherine Gotani Hara is the Member of Parliament for Mzimba North East in Mzimba District, elected for the Malawi Congress Party in the 2025 general election.1

In the September 2025 election she won Mzimba North East with 68.1% of the 21,972 votes counted, 49.7 points ahead of the DPP candidate, in a field of 5 candidates.2

She was born on 29 April 1974. She studied at University of Malawi, Kamuzu Academy and University of Brighton. Before entering Parliament, she worked as a speaker and a minister. She has served as health minister, environment minister, Minister of Health and Population and Speaker of the National Assembly of Malawi (2019–).
