Biography
Richard Chimwendo Banda is the Member of Parliament for Dowa East in Dowa District, elected for the Malawi Congress Party in the 2025 general election.1
In the September 2025 election Banda won Dowa East with 86.3% of the 29,108 votes counted, 72.5 points ahead of the DPP candidate.2
Banda was born in 1963. Banda has served as Minister of Homeland Security (2020–2022) and Minister of Youth and Sports (2022–2023).
